After lasts night talking to he has definitely been slightly more engaged this morning with his physio and actually, now I come to stop and think about it, we’ve had a lovely positive day together. Credit where credits due. He’s been a good little boy. Read on to see where the glimmer of a miracle shines brightly today.

See our video below👇🏻 - he can stand, I’m not fibbing! Still not his best effort this morning but you can see his progress. (I may post the out-takes on Sunday for your amusement)

As we embark on some more excercises in his ’Frenchie Bouncer’, he’s doing really well but it’s becoming clear that his right back leg is stiffer with more resistance and his left leg is more floppy and bendy. The discs operated on were on his left side. Hmmm not sure what that means?, whether stiff or more flexible is better?! Something I shall ask Nisha the physio on Monday.

We’ve been nappy free all morning and all going well but he had a little (more like a lake) accident whilst scoffing down his favourite breakfast of: sardines, mackerel, pasta, spinach & sweetcorn mixed together with lactose free yoghurt and a dollop of fat free cottage cheese! Now who wouldn’t pee themselves over that little culinary delight???!

He’s even pushing up with his feet whilst eating!

He’s completely finished with all medication now and just has the following supplements with his food;

  • sprinkle of Ground flaxseed in every meal

  • 1 x Tumeric & Curcumin capsule with breakfast

  • 1.5 small spoons of ‘Xiao Hua Luo Dan’ spread out in meals across the day

  • Bonemeal powder - when it arrives!

  • 5 x ’Leaks no More’ drops with his dinner (I am persevering just in case they start to work miracle, one can hope)

I turn my back for a moment and return to find him staring out of the window looking all alert.

Awww one day pup! And let’s try and make that soon!

His incision is healing beautifully on his back so ’tonight is the night’. I have cancelled any plans I had in favour of spending my evening in bubble bath heaven turning one stinking little pup into a beauty queen. Well, King in his case!

He can now get his whole body wet so I’m ditching the ineffective sponge bathing for a full on soak in the tub!

“But where have I put his rubber duck??”

So the water may have started to resemble ‘Fanta Lemon’ in colour pretty early on, but lucky for us, there’s plenty more fresh hot water in the tap, he WILL be smelling clean after this good soak! I can take the aroma of pee around me no more. Someone is going to ask me if I’m wearing a new (bad) perfume soon!

Out comes the Elvive Extreme Lengths shampoo and conditioner. I have bathed him in this since a pup. He didn’t get on with dog shampoo so one day I tried Elvive and we haven’t looked back. It makes him smell beautiful and gives him a soft and silky coat. It’s L’oreal and of course “He’s worth it”

Are you ready for the glimmer of a mini miracle??

I turn on the mixer shower to rinse him off. He always hates this bit. The bath water is now about shoulder height for him. In an attempt to get away from the shower … he stands up all on his own!!!!!

I can only think the water was taking his weight and up he got up without thinking about it and then tried to walk to the other end of the bath! He didn't manage the walking but definitely the stand.

As the water was draining I got these quick snaps!! He couldn‘t get up on his own without the water though, but I’ll still take this as another victory in our journey!

I’ve got even higher hopes for hydrotherapy on Monday now!

I’ve been desperate to give his new towelling robe a try all week, but with him being banned from the pool on Monday we have yet to give it a trial run … until now.

Drying off nicely- so adorable! He’s clearly not happy though, he never has been one for dress up! Such as shame, he would look good at Christmas as a little reindeer!

I keep being asked how am I doing? Well after our mini miracle I am sat here on a Friday night with a glass of wine in my hand, a smile of positivity from ear to ear and a puppy dog practising his yoga in front of me. Not a bad evening at all.

My final thoughts on the day …

A No.2 is yet to make an appearance - oh no!

THANK YOU’s

Whilst it goes without saying that a big chunk of credit for Lloris’s rehabilitation to being a walking puppy dog again goes unquestionably to him! There have been many helping hands along the way that are more than deserving of a mention …

Thank you to;

Davies Vet (Johnny & Alex) for their remarkable surgery, prompt action and after care. He came home a calm and happy dog…even if his legs weren’t working…his wound has healed remarkably well without scaring.

To Dr Rinnert van den Bergh - The Holistic Vet who never raised an eyebrow at his little accidents and always progressed him further after every treatment.  Lloris is especially grateful for the liver paste you would win him over with!

To Nisha from Paws & Hooves - Hydrotherapy.  You have been remarkable in your patience with Lloris. Thank you for answering the phone when many others didn’t that day.  Finding you was meant to be.

To Willow Vets in Newport Pagnell who took Lloris on as a new case for his cancer straight away and operated within two days. The entire team of staff have been nothing but kind and professional and whilst Lloris will continue to hate you all (hate may be a bit of strong word…. But I’m not so sure?!) I on the other hand think you are all amazing.

To his Uncle Cristian for building his ‘Frenchie Bouncer’ was a big game changer in our rehab!

To his Grandad for building his Pig Pen which he has grown to love

To his Nanny for his the daily love and company not to mention the endless cleaning of him and my house!  We truly couldn’t have got through this without you, you gave me the break I needed to keep my sanity.

To Matt the Chippy for his back door ramp!

To the IVDD Facebook support group.  I learned so much from you. https://www.facebook.com/groups/178483559398659/?ref=share

To my friends and family who reached out to help me. Everyone of you that messaged, read our blog and paid an interest in both his and my well being made such a difference on both the dark days and the light.   Lloris loves people so the visits and gifts all lifted his spirits and snapped him out of the sulks!

To Dan, Lloris’s dad. You stepped up when he needed you the most and answered our cry for help to get him to the hospital that day.  It will always be a shame we couldn’t stay the family unit we had wanted for him. We certainly tried!  Thank you for letting him live with me, I can’t imagine the heartache of giving him up.

To the friend in my life that gave me focus from day 1 when I asked for help bringing him home … he said something like  “I have the dentist so can’t help you that day, I would if I could but … you’re going to have to get used to handling him and lugging him about on your own, so you may as well just get on with it now”. I thought he was being an unhelpful arse at the time but actually that was the best piece of advice I could have been given. Man up and get on with it.  You can’t turn back time or change anything. You are where you are, so take a deep breath and in the words of Nike - Just do it.

And that we did!
