It’s back to the office today for both me and the little rascal.

I have had a replica ‘Pig Pen’ built in my office so it should feel like home from home. He’s used to being in the office (Property Letting Agency) and terrorising all of our visitors so he won’t feel out of place here but maybe a little frustrated he can’t actually get to jump up and terrorise them all now!

You never know, the usual desire to bark at the local policeman and chase him around the office might have some impact in getting him to use his legs!!

He has a real ‘thing’ about hats and high vis vests, hates them almost as much as the vacuum cleaner!

He’s excited to see his Aunty Mirelle in the office and they play with his toys together like they used to. As soon as she walks away from him he’s crying at her for more attention! He really doesn’t like being penned in. It would seem it’s no fun being at the office if he can’t pull out the contents of everyone’s desk bins and rip it to shreds, or to sleep in the office window watching the world go by and deciding who he will let in and who he won’t!

He’s always adored hanging out in the office with his Aunty Mirelle from a young pup

“Hang in there pup, we’ll have you terrorising all of the office visitors again in no time!”

This mornings routine was dare I say it… perfect! He went to bed at 10pm, slept through until 8am. Had no nappy on and no accidents!

He stood for the count of 10 out in the garden this morning. Another second on yesterday!

Physio was a good session this morning. He was ‘up for it’ and made at least some effort in his standing.

I’ve noticed that with the ‘electric toothbrush therapy’ I’ve made up for him, he seems to pull away from it now and it’s bothering him so he must be able to feel it, whereby on Sunday he wasn’t overly concerned with it. A good sign I think!

Mummy’s little angel 😇

Today is the big day. I’m so very excited for his hydrathearpy. I have everything crossed he will make the effort and it will go well!

At just after 3pm I’ve packed his bag for his ‘Aqua Aerobics’ and off we go excitedly to meet Nisha from Paws and Hooves for his first session.

I try to look the part and walk him through the door in his sling rather than carry him.

Big Mistake!

The sling walking always makes him piddle, must press on his bladder I suppose. So in we go with a full nappy and stinking of pee! Not a great start.

We chat through his history and what’s happened to him and how (the ‘how’ bit is still a conundrum to explain - if only I really knew!) he’s sitting beautifully at this point looking every part the model french bulldog.

But here comes the blow… the full nappy and piddling has let us down. There will be no hydro pool for him today. Random piddling = NO swimming lesson. Clearly the ‘stop that leak’ drops are yet to kick in and work in our favour!

Nevermind, the lovely Nisha sets about some laser treatment on him and gives his legs a good massage. He’s all chilled out and enjoying it. Nappy is off, no piddling. We’re all good. Once again: Mummy’s little angel.

Now it comes to showing Nisha how his 10second stand is progressing after me raving about his progress and even texting her a photo last night of him standing like some desperately proud mother wanting her child to win the prize!

But NO. He’s just had a lovely massage. He’s all relaxed, why on earth would he want to put effort into standing. I don’t think we even got a ONE second stand out of him!!

“Come on you lazy little pooch , put your back into it! Literally!!“

We end the session with Nisha wanting to take a cute picture of him. He’s been giving her the dreamy eyes all session and being all adorable. He normally loves to pose for a picture, but again it’s all too much trouble for him to even look up! … but would seem the perfect time to mark his territory on her floor - oh Lloris!!

He really has not shown himself in a good light this afternoon. Rather than come across as this spirited determined puppy dog that’s eager to get up and walk again, he was just sloppy and lazy and enjoying a nice little rub down.

“This was not money well spent Lloris. You had better perk up for next Mondays session!“

Upon returning to the office he snoozed off the rest of the day. Guess it was all a little much for him! I’m glad he likes Nisha though. She is lovely and hopefully he will trust her to help him when we up the ante!

Let’s hope tomorrows electro acupuncture gives him a kick up the bum and a shock to the system! …. and we also have a little home made contraption from his uncle Cristian to put to the test! … but will it all work???

Watch this space …

THANK YOU’s

Whilst it goes without saying that a big chunk of credit for Lloris’s rehabilitation to being a walking puppy dog again goes unquestionably to him! There have been many helping hands along the way that are more than deserving of a mention …

Thank you to;

Davies Vet (Johnny & Alex) for their remarkable surgery, prompt action and after care. He came home a calm and happy dog…even if his legs weren’t working…his wound has healed remarkably well without scaring.

To Dr Rinnert van den Bergh - The Holistic Vet who never raised an eyebrow at his little accidents and always progressed him further after every treatment.  Lloris is especially grateful for the liver paste you would win him over with!

To Nisha from Paws & Hooves - Hydrotherapy.  You have been remarkable in your patience with Lloris. Thank you for answering the phone when many others didn’t that day.  Finding you was meant to be.

To Willow Vets in Newport Pagnell who took Lloris on as a new case for his cancer straight away and operated within two days. The entire team of staff have been nothing but kind and professional and whilst Lloris will continue to hate you all (hate may be a bit of strong word…. But I’m not so sure?!) I on the other hand think you are all amazing.

To his Uncle Cristian for building his ‘Frenchie Bouncer’ was a big game changer in our rehab!

To his Grandad for building his Pig Pen which he has grown to love

To his Nanny for his the daily love and company not to mention the endless cleaning of him and my house!  We truly couldn’t have got through this without you, you gave me the break I needed to keep my sanity.

To Matt the Chippy for his back door ramp!

To the IVDD Facebook support group.  I learned so much from you. https://www.facebook.com/groups/178483559398659/?ref=share

To my friends and family who reached out to help me. Everyone of you that messaged, read our blog and paid an interest in both his and my well being made such a difference on both the dark days and the light.   Lloris loves people so the visits and gifts all lifted his spirits and snapped him out of the sulks!

To Dan, Lloris’s dad. You stepped up when he needed you the most and answered our cry for help to get him to the hospital that day.  It will always be a shame we couldn’t stay the family unit we had wanted for him. We certainly tried!  Thank you for letting him live with me, I can’t imagine the heartache of giving him up.

To the friend in my life that gave me focus from day 1 when I asked for help bringing him home … he said something like  “I have the dentist so can’t help you that day, I would if I could but … you’re going to have to get used to handling him and lugging him about on your own, so you may as well just get on with it now”. I thought he was being an unhelpful arse at the time but actually that was the best piece of advice I could have been given. Man up and get on with it.  You can’t turn back time or change anything. You are where you are, so take a deep breath and in the words of Nike - Just do it.

And that we did!
